Planned Giving

A legacy gift to Tacoma Public Library Foundation (TPLF) can be as simple as designating the Foundation as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy, retirement account or naming the Foundation in your Living Will. It’s smart, too, because it can also bring financial benefits.

Gifts of Securities

Donating stocks or bonds can offer tax advantages and make a big impact on our community. A gift of appreciated securities provides benefits like an immediate charitable deduction for the full market value of the stock and avoidance of capital gains taxes that would normally be due upon sale.   We do not charge any additional fees.  Please note, we do not provide financial advice and recommend consulting your financial advisor before finalizing your gift.

After the stock is received, it is sold immediately, and the proceeds are deposited into the Tacoma Public Library Foundation’s (501c3) account.  Subsequently, funds will be transferred to Tacoma Public Library and appropriated as has been designated by the donor.

TPLF as Beneficiary in Your Retirement Account

Gifts from your IRA are a smart way to support Tacoma Public Library and may have significant tax benefits. It is important to designate Tacoma Public Library Foundation as a beneficiary if you are considering this option.  Unlike gifts to individuals that can be taxed as ordinary income, gifts to TPLF are free from income tax.  Reach out to your IRA custodian or trustee if necessary to initiate the giving process, unless  you can make it yourself.  Provide the following information to  make the designation.

Please see the Library as an avenue for ensuring that you or your family's legacy is sustained.  By noting Tacoma Public Library Foundation as a beneficiary, you can make a bequest of cash, stocks and bonds, real estate, personal property, life Insurance or a percentage of your estate.  Several estate planning options are managed with community partners.

Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

Donor Advised Funds are an incredibly popular way to manage charitable giving around your greatest interest or passion. A DAF makes it easy for donors to dedicate funds to support their favorite nonprofit such as TPLF. Gifts of cash, publicly traded securities, non-publicly traded assets, securities, stocks, crypto, or mutual funds can be used.   If you have an established Donor Advised Fund and wish to make a grant to Tacoma Public Library Foundation (TPLF) simply note the following as the beneficiary of your gift.
